Privacy policy
The short version: we keep what the game needs to work. There are no ads and no trackers, and we don't sell anything about you.
Last updated November 5, 2026
This page explains what Hanzi Rivals stores when you play at hanzirivals.com, who can see it, and what you can do about it. "We" means the people behind Hanzi Rivals.
What we store
- Your player. The name you type, which doesn't have to be your real one, and the fighter you pick. We don't ask for an email address, a phone number or a password.
- Your sign-in. A random code that keeps you signed in, and the private link you can use on another device.
- Your word lists. Anything you paste or build, including the list's name.
- Your play. Your duels, sprints and climbs: the questions you were asked, what you answered, how it was graded, how well you know each word, and when all of that happened.
- Activity logs. A record of events such as starting a duel or sharing a link, with the time. We use these to run the game, keep it fair, and see which parts work.
Handwriting is checked on your device. Your drawing stays there, and only the result reaches us.
If you email us, we'll have your email address and whatever you write, and we'll use them to reply.
What we don't do
We don't show ads. We don't use advertising or analytics services, and we don't sell your information or share it for marketing.
Who can see what
- Anyone with a game link can see the names and fighters of the people playing, the name of the word list, and how the game is going. Apps that show link previews, such as Messages, can display that too. Share links with people you want to play with.
- The people you play with can see your name, your fighter, your moves and results, and the words in any list you play with together.
- Anyone with your device link can sign in as you, so keep it private.
Cookies and storage on your device
We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in and lasts up to 400 days. The game needs it to work, and we don't use it to follow you anywhere else. Your browser also stores your sound settings and a few game preferences, and those stay on your device.
Companies that help run the game
The game runs on a server from a hosting company, which handles your IP address to deliver pages and may keep it in short-lived logs. We don't store IP addresses in the game's database. Our server may be in a different country from you.
Words are read aloud by your own browser or device. Depending on which you use, its maker may handle that speech.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your data while the game is running, so that you can come back to your lists and progress. To get a copy or have it deleted, email support@hanzirivals.com with your player name and your device link, so we know it's you. We'll delete your player, your lists and your play history.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your data, such as correcting it or objecting to how it's used. Email us and we'll help.
Children
Hanzi Rivals isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has been playing, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If the change is a big one, we'll also say so in the game.
