Terms of use

These terms apply when you play Hanzi Rivals at hanzirivals.com. By playing, you agree to them. "We" means the people behind Hanzi Rivals.

The game

The game is free to play right now. It's new, so features will change, things will sometimes break, and we may pause or end the service. If anything ever costs money, we'll tell you before you pay.

Who can play

You need to be at least 13. If you're under 18, please check with a parent or guardian first.

Your sign-in

There's no password. Your player lives in your browser, with a device link as the way back in. Keep that link private. If you lose both, we may not be able to restore your progress.

What you add

Your name and word lists stay yours. You give us permission to store them and show them as the game needs, such as showing a list to the friend you challenge. Only add things you have the right to use, and please don't paste in whole books.

Play fair

Please don't:

• use names or word lists that harass, threaten or abuse people, or that break the law
• cheat, or interfere with other people's games
• attack, overload or scrape the service, or try to get at other people's data

We can remove names and lists, and block players, that break these rules.

Words and learning

The dictionary and word lists come from public sources, listed in About and credits, and they can contain mistakes. The dictionary includes real language, crude words among it, though those are hidden until you ask for them. The game is a way to practice, and it can't promise you a result on any exam.

No guarantees

We provide the game as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for lost progress or for indirect losses that come from using it. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law.

iPhone and iMessage are trademarks of Apple Inc. Hanzi Rivals isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Apple, Quizlet or the organizers of the HSK exams.

Changes

If these terms change, we'll update them here and change the date at the top. If you keep playing after that, the new terms apply.
