Playing with friends
Does my friend need an app or an account?
No. Your friend opens the link in a browser, picks a name and a fighter, and plays.
My friend lost the link. How do I send it again?
Open the duel from your Home screen in the game and tap Nudge to send it again, or use Text it or Copy link.
How long does my friend have to reply?
As long as they like. Only a question is timed, and its clock doesn't start until they tap to answer it.
Can more than two people play?
Duels are one on one. A Character Sprint or Character Climb takes everyone you send the link to, and they all play the same boards.
Your progress
How do I play on another device?
At the bottom of the game's Home screen, tap Play on another device and open that link on your other phone or computer. Keep it private, because anyone with the link can play as you.
I lost my duels. Can I get them back?
There's no password. Your player lives in your browser, so clearing its data or signing out leaves you signed out. If you saved your device link, open it to get back in. On the game's first screen, you can also paste it under Already playing on another device? If you didn't save one, email us and we'll see what we can do.
On your phone
How do I add the game to my Home Screen?
iPhone: open the game in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Android: open it in Chrome, tap the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
The Home Screen version doesn't know who I am.
On iPhone, a game on your Home Screen keeps its sign-in apart from Safari. Use your device link to bring your player over.
Is there an iPhone app?
It's on the way, along with a version you play inside Messages. The website has everything in the game until then.
Sound
I can't hear anything.
Nothing plays until your first tap, because browsers require that. On iPhone, the silent switch mutes the game too. You can switch music, effects and spoken words on or off with 🎵 in the top bar or in Settings.
Words aren't being read aloud.
The game uses your device's own Chinese voice. If you hear nothing, check that a Chinese voice is installed in your device's speech settings.
Words and writing
A word has the wrong meaning.
Fix it in your list: your own meaning always wins, so you can match your textbook. Meanings come from CC-CEDICT, a dictionary its community maintains. If a ready-made list has a mistake, tell us.
Does it work with traditional characters?
Yes. Paste them and you get pinyin, meanings and handwriting. The ready-made lists are simplified.
The pad won't take my stroke.
Try drawing the stroke as one smooth line, a bit longer. Any order works, and after 3 misses in a row the pad draws the next stroke for you. See how writing is graded.
How do I see crude words in the dictionary?
They're hidden by default. Tick Show crude words in the dictionary to turn them on.

How do I delete my data?
Email support@hanzirivals.com with your player name and your device link, so we know it's you, and we'll delete it. There's more in our privacy policy.
